Closed petition Review regulation of water companies
We want the Government to review regulation of water companies through Ofwat. We feel that Ofwat need stronger powers to stop any water bill hikes unless companies show service and environmental improvements.
More details
We feel that water companies are increasing bills while reporting losses, paying high executive salaries, and failing to fix leaks and pollution. We think customers should not be forced to pay for this. We want the Government to review Ofwat's powers to block unfair bill hikes unless companies do more to prove service improvements, reduce pollution, and prioritise public investment over profits. We feel that stricter regulation is needed to protect consumers from unjustified price increases.

Explainer
Backbench Business debates give MPs an opportunity to debate a topic of their choice, and receive a response from the Government.
They are a way to:
- raise awareness of an issue
- seek to influence government policy
- put the views of backbench MPs, political parties, and the Government on record.
They do not generally involve a vote on a particular action or decision.
