Rejected petition Limit the import of US beef in order to support British farms and farmers
The recent UK-US trade deal has granted US beef farmers/ranchers access to the UK market. The Government and Parliament needs to limit that access/import and prevent US beef flooding the UK market and pushing UK beef out.
More details
We need to support and protect British farming, and while this trade deal grants UK farmers access to the US market, we need to prevent a deficit. The US is moving to buy American, which may prevent the US market access from offsetting the losses incurred by US beef entering our market. All in all this would be catastrophic for the UK farming industry, and we need to prevent that happening by limiting the losses. This is why we need to limit the amount of US beef entering the UK market.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to be clear and call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you mean in regards to limiting the access or import of US beef into the UK.
For example, we are not sure if you would like the total amount of imports to be capped, or if you'd like the amount that can be imported tariff free to be reduced.
The new agreement allows 13,000 metric tonnes of beef imports from the US tariff-free.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
