Petition Review consumer contract laws to stop non-agreed charges in construction
We urge the Government to review consumer contract laws to prevent builders from using the threat of stopping agreed contractual work to make contractors pay extra, non-agreed or retrospective payments. We believe these practices can exploit homeowners at vulnerable times and should be unlawful.
More details
We want the Government to protect homeowners from unfair practices from some builders who may demand non-agreed payments and threaten to stop work if unpaid, which may leave families in vulnerable positions. We feel this behaviour exploits homeowners, harms trust and damages the wider reputation of UK builders. We urge the Government to review current consumer contract laws to ensure these practices, which we feel put property owners at risk, cannot happen.
