Rejected petition Change the way that car insurance policies are worked out for older people
People over 70 renew their driving licence every 3 years. The DVLA should tighten up renewals starting with them asking for an opticians certificate to state the the persons eyesight is acceptable for driving.
This should help to keep insurance premiums down.
More details
At the moment all elderly drivers are lumped together for insurance purposes, in my instance I am being penalised for my age. I am perfectly fit to drive without glasses and have all my faculties.
It would seem that all elderly people are classed as high risk as far as the insurance people are concerned, this is not so!
At the moment I have 14years no claims bonus.
The government needs to ask the insurance companies to work out a way of cheapening insurance for those safe elderly drivers.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
The way in which car insurance policies are worked out is a matter for individual insurance providers.
Another element of this petition is covered by an open petition:
"Require people over 70 have a compulsory eye tests every 2 years to drive" https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/725445
