Petition Change in Driving License Design to Incorporate Gaelic and Scots

More details

A press release on the 30th of December by the DVLA, Claire Perry MP, and the Department of Transport, stated that from 2015 UK drivers will be able to 'Fly the flag with pride' with the introduction of the Union flag to driving licenses.

As joyous an occasion as this may be for some, I could not share in the patriotic sentiment when renewing my road tax on the very same day as - ochon ochrie wae wis me - both languages of my country, Gaelic and Scots, remain officially sidelined by the DVLA.

I urge the UK Government, therefore, to accord parity to Scotland's languages with those of England and Wales by offering not only a Gaelic and Scots option to those communicating with the DVLA, but the choice of having the languages on the newly designed, Union flag-embossed, über-license.
