Rejected petition: Make Regional Detention Centres for Illegal Migrants and End Use of Hotels.
Rejected on
We, the undersigned, call upon the government to immediately stop housing illegal migrants in hotels at taxpayer expense and to prioritise the establishment and use of dedicated regional detention centres instead.
This will keep the public and communities safe while processes happen.
We propose the use of regional detention centres, properly staffed and regulated, where immigration cases can be processed efficiently and humanely. These centres would allow for:
• Proper vetting and monitoring of arrivals
• Fair and timely processing of asylum and deportation cases
• Reduced costs compared to hotel accommodation
• Enhanced public safety and accountability
This will keep the public and communities safe and restore trust.
