Petition Ban solar panels on farmland & require new build homes to have solar panels

Ban ground-mounted solar panels on fertile farmland and make it law that all new-build houses have solar panels installed. We think solar panels should be installed on rooftops, car parks and farm buildings, which should be subsidised by Government. Farmers could benefit from the additional income.

More details

We think this Government needs to realise that food security is essential and building solar farms on fertile ground is simply ridiculous.

By actually supporting farmers by subsidising panels on farm buildings, you could actually support the industry that Great Britain relies on.

No Farmers, No Food - you cannot import it all.

  1. Impact of land use change on food security: debate in Parliament

On 18 November, MPs debated the impact of land use change on food security, in Parliament.

This was a Westminster Hall debate led by Wendy Morton MP.

During the debate, some MPs discussed the use of solar panels on farmland.

The Minister for Food Security and Rural Affairs, Dame Angela Eagle MP, responded on behalf of the Government.

    Explainer

Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to debate a topic of their choice, and receive a response from the Government.

    They are a way to:

    • raise awareness of an issue
    • seek to influence government policy
    • put the views of backbench MPs, political parties, and the Government on record.

They do not involve a vote on a particular action or decision.
