Rejected petition Annual Confidence Vote on the Government

Introduce an annual public confidence vote on the Government. If most vote “No”, a General Election is triggered. This keeps parties accountable, stops broken manifesto promises, and strengthens UK democracy by giving people a regular say in leadership.

More details

Governments can win power with promises they later break, yet stay in office for years. An annual confidence vote would keep them accountable, ensure they deliver on their manifesto, and give the public a regular say. If most vote “No”, a General Election would be triggered. This would strengthen democracy, rebuild trust in politics, and ensure the people’s voice is heard throughout a Government’s term.
