Rejected petition: Create a DVLA licence category for electric scooters

Rejected on

We ask the Government to create a dedicated DVLA vehicle category for electric scooters (e-scooter-like vehicles) so that they can be safely used on UK roads and cycle lanes.

At present, privately owned e-scooters are technically illegal to use on public roads, pavements, and cycle lanes, despite their popularity and widespread use. This legal uncertainty means riders face fines and seizure, while the UK misses out on the benefits of a low-emission, low-cost, accessible transport option.
