Closed petition: Make politically motivated vandalism a specific offence with strong penalties

Closed on

Make unauthorised painting of political markings or graffiti - particularly on roads, kerbs and road signs - a specific offence. Punishments should include high fines, community orders, rapid removal paid for by the offender and even custody for repeat or group offending.

We think large paint symbols on roads and signs can create hazards, alarm residents and inflame tensions. They can be costly to remove and often reappear when enforcement is weak. We think creating a specific offence, with stronger penalties and rapid removal could deter repeat behaviour and protect safety and community cohesion.
