Rejected petition: Ban MPs and Lords from company stakes that pose conflicts of interest

Rejected on

Stop MPs and Lords from cashing in on the very industries they oversee. From arms to oil to big pharma and tech, politicians must divest or use blind trusts. No more hidden agendas -Parliament must put the public first and end financial conflicts of interest.

Democracy fails when lawmakers profit from the industries they regulate. It's not enough to "declare" interests - conflicts still corrupt decisions and fuel public distrust. Whether arms, oil, pharma or tech, private profit skews choices about our safety, health and planet.

To restore trust and protect democracy, Parliament must ban these financial ties or require assets in blind trusts, with strict penalties and full accountability for any illegal actions.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We are unsure if you want MPs/peers to be banned from holding any shares in companies, except in blind trusts, or if you want them to be banned from holding shares in certain industries.

You can start a new petition setting out more clearly what action you are calling for.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
