Rejected petition Introduce subtitles in public environments, such as concerts & sports events

Implement subtitles in public situations, such as cinemas & theatres who can use technologies like subtitling apps aimed towards hearing-impaired individuals. Concerts and sporting events can have screens displaying live-captioned text alongside the program to ensure everyone is included.

More details

As someone with a hearing impairment, I find myself constantly facing challenges in public spaces. Venues like cinemas, concert venues, theatres, and sports events are inherently reliant on audio, which poses a barrier for myself and the deaf and hard of hearing community. Without subtitles, the dialogue in films, announcements during sports events, and song lyrics at concerts become inaccessible, cutting us off from the full experience that everyone else enjoys.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about the use of subtitles in entertainment venues are a matter for individual businesses, not the UK Government or Parliament. If you'd like the Government or Parliament to set new requirements for venues about the use of subtitles, you could start a new petition clearly setting out what you'd like those requirements to be.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
