Petition Make a law to protect ILR from abolition and retrospective changes
We want the Parliament to introduce primary legislation that guarantees Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) as a permanent route to settlement. ILR must not be abolished, withdrawn from holders, or replaced with visas. Any changes to ILR should apply only to new entrants from the date of implementation
More details
ILR allows one to settle permanently in the UK, fostering integration into British society. Now this status is not protected by law: changes to it can be made by the Home Secretary at their discretion. The Act of Parliament should state that:
• ILR is a permanent immigration status
• ILR can't be revoked or converted into a time-limited visa
• Any future changes to ILR rules (including eligibility rules) must be for new applicants only, not retrospectively to those already on a settlement path
