I support the Government’s proposal to introduce digital ID cards. And I think that there will be considerable support for it. A petition for this would provide an appropriate balance against petitions not in favour of digital ID cards.

Illegal immigration is a major concern of the UK population and the Government is under extreme pressure to take appropriate action. The introduction of ID cards would be the first action by the Government that may have any significant effect. Most European countries have ID cards.
