Closed petition: Require food labelled as "gluten-free" on menus to be cross-contamination free
Closed on
Restaurants can label food as “gluten-free” on menus even if cooked where cross-contamination occurs, making it unsafe for people with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance. We ask the Government to strengthen the law so that gluten-free food must be prepared to avoid cross-contamination.
I was diagnosed with coeliac disease last year, which has transformed my life and that of my family. Our food costs have tripled, and eating out is a minefield. Many places label food as “gluten-free” but cross-contamination makes it unsafe for those with coeliac disease, for example due to shared fryers and equipment.
