Rejected petition Hold a Parliamentary debate on the reckless use of accusations of racism by MPs.

We call on Parliament to hold a debate on the reckless and unfounded use of accusations of racism by MPs and whether safeguards or sanctions should apply to prevent the abuse of such language.

More details

When such language is used without evidence, it risks fuelling division, inciting hostility and puts individuals and communities at heightened risk of harm. It also undermines public trust in elected representatives and brings Parliament into disrepute.

Those in positions of authority should be held to the highest standards of integrity and responsibility. Parliament should debate whether reckless public accusations of racism are compatible with the standards expected of MPs.
