Rejected petition Hold a referendum before introducing a mandatory digital ID system (“BritCard”)
We want the Government to commit to holding a national referendum before introducing any form of mandatory digital ID system. This would give the people the final say on whether such a scheme should become law.
More details
The Government plans to introduce a national Digital ID (“BritCard”), mandatory for Right to Work checks and potentially expanded to benefits, tax, and other services. This represents a fundamental change in the citizen–state relationship, raising serious concerns under Article 8 ECHR (privacy), Article 6 ECHR (fair hearing), and the Bill of Rights 1688. A referendum is essential to give the people the final say.
