Closed petition: Raise formal objections to EU Biometric Border Checks for British Travellers
Closed on
We call on the UK Government to raise formal objections with the European Union regarding the upcoming implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES), which will require UK and other non-EU nationals to submit biometric data (fingerprints and facial images) when entering the Schengen Area.
This system poses serious concerns about privacy, data protection and freedom of movement. Biometric surveillance at borders risks normalising mass data collection. We urge the Government to oppose the use of biometric data as a condition of travel for UK citizens. Seek exemptions through diplomatic channels. As a country that values privacy and human rights we feel the UK should not remain silent while our citizens are subjected to invasive surveillance technologies when travelling abroad.
