Closed petition: Ban non-essential cookies in apps for under-13s and require parental consent

Closed on

Apps designed for children under 13 often ask them to accept cookies. There are concerns this could expose them to tracking. We ask the government to ban non-essential cookies in apps designed for children age 13 and under and require parental consent for all data collection.

We believe children under 13 cannot give valid consent for data collection. Many apps ask them to accept non essential cookies. We believe this could expose them to tracking, profiling, and privacy risks. Requiring parental consent and banning non-essential cookies can help protect children’s privacy, online safety, and would be compliant with UK data protection laws.
