Petition Malaysia should be warned about its membership in the Commonwealth

More details

Malaysia, as a member of the Commonwealth of Nations has agreed to abide by the Harare Declaration. Which states: "liberty of the individual under the law, in equal rights for all citizens regardless of
gender, race, colour, creed or political belief"

The Recent sentencing of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, which has been widely condemned by Human Rights' groups. Followed by the arrest of a cartoonist for "sedition" puts Malaysia down a path towards serious violation of this declaration.

Malaysia should be warned that the Commonwealth is concerned about recent activity in Malaysia, and that for it to remain a member of the Commonwealth the next general election needs to recognise (to quote from the Harare Declaration) "the individual's inalienable right to participate by means of free and democratic political processes in framing the society in which he or she lives"
