Rejected petition The Domestic Abuse (Family Right to Act) Bill.
Give immediate family members the legal right to report and press charges for domestic abuse on behalf of victims.
More details
We call on the UK Government to allow immediate family members to report and, where evidence exists, press charges for domestic abuse. In the year ending March 2024 there were 360+ abuse-related deaths and 98 suicides. Victims often stay silent out of fear or coercion. This Bill would let families act early, prevent serious harm or death, and ensure police take proactive measures. If refused, we ask what steps will protect victims and save lives.
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
It is already possible for family members to report concerns of domestic violence to the police. Decisions about investigations and charging people with offences are for the police and CPS.
We're therefore not sure exactly what change you'd like to see.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
