Rejected petition Allow People to Choose Their Parental Titles on Their Child's Birth Certificate

Change the law to give people the ability to choose whether they are listed as "mother", "father", or "parent" on their child's birth certificate, be that at time of registration of birth, or to change it at a later date, without the requirement of a Gender Recognition Certificate.

More details

We think the legal definitions of "mother" and "father" are severely outdated, reflecting biological roles corresponding with creating a child, rather than the genders of parents.

Trans parents use the terms they feel most comfortable with in their personal lives, and we think they should have the right to those terms in formal writing too, be that trans men who have given birth being recorded as "father", trans women as "mother", or non-binary parents as "parent".
