  Disinformation diplomacy: Committee report

  On 8 June, the Foreign Affairs Committee published the Government's response to its report entitled 'Disinformation diplomacy: How malign actors are seeking to undermine democracy.'

  The Government's response partially agreed with the Committee’s recommendations to:

  • compel social media companies to make algorithms transparent
  • launch a National Counter Disinformation Centre
  • include provisions in the Representation of the People Bill to tackle AI-generated content and algorithmic biasing for political advantage

  It disagreed with the Committee’s recommendation to amend the Online Safety Act to oblige social media companies to provide transparency of user location.
