To ensure fair trials we cannot accept the proposal to remove the requirement for trial by jury for most criminal trials.

A trial by jury is critical to ensuring a fair trial, and is one of the key foundations of our judicial system.
To remove this for the majority of trials would severely undermine the system and lead to a significant increase in wrongful convictions.
