Open petition: Require proof of license when selling speed pedelecs
Created by Paul Stuart
Closes on
Currently UK sellers of speed pedelecs are not obliged to confirm that a purchaser holds a valid moped or motorcycle licence. This needs to become a legal requirement. In addition the seller should record the buyer name, address, insurance & tax details before the purchaser can complete the purchase
The use of speed pedelecs in the UK is on the increase for the purpose of collecting and delivering online takeaway food orders. Riders of speed pedelecs can achieve speeds of up to 28mph. Sellers in the UK currently are not required to confirm if the buyer holds the required license and other legal documents. Sellers should be required to see these documents prior to the purchase and provide the buyer with a signed document of confirmation.
