Open petition: Fund & require new, stronger gates at train stations to stop fare evaders
Created by Josh Leadbetter
Closes on
We feel current train station gates are too easy to force open and can allow criminals from entering unchecked. This can facilitate fare evasion and can put staff at risk when they try to stop fare evaders.
We want the Govt to fund and require tougher, high-resistance barriers that cannot be pushed through by force. We believe current "paddle" gates are too weak, allowing many individuals to barge through or "tailgate" with minimal effort. This can bypass security, facilitate fare evasion—costing taxpayers millions—and create a dangerous environment. Station staff may face abuse or physical assault when trying to stop these individuals. We want the Government to mandate and fund new and upgraded barriers that use high-resistance, reinforced designs that cannot be forced open, ensuring a safer, fairer rail network.
