Open petition: End the Use of Bearskin in the Kings Guard Headgear
Created by Aaron Pardo
Closes on
The Ministry of Defence must find suitable faux-fur alternatives for the King's Guard headgear that fulfil the necessary criteria. Currently, the hats require Black Bear Skin, costing over £2000 each, making them both expensive and ethically questionable.
Using black bear skin for the King's Guard clashes with the UK's ethical stance on animal welfare. It is imperative that the government mandate the MOD to implement a program exploring faux-fur alternatives that meet the criteria for the headgear. This program must be managed by an independent watchdog to guarantee transparency and ensure that animal welfare, alongside cost efficiency, remains central to the transition. Once an alternative is identified, it must be implemented promptly.
