Open petition: Prioritise NHS training based on experience, not immigration status

Created by Trevor David Grant
Closes on

Amend the Medical Training (Prioritisation) Bill to prioritise doctors based on length and quality of NHS service, not merely immigration status, ensuring experienced NHS doctors are fairly considered for specialty training - overall supporting workforce retention and patient safety.

Many doctors with years of NHS service may be disadvantaged by proposals that could prioritise immigration status over genuine, lived experience. This risks unfair treatment, legal challenges on the basis of nationality discrimination and a loss of skilled staff already working in the UK who are familiar with NHS systems. We believe prioritising those already within NHS service in addition would improve retention, reward contribution, and better protect patients and workforce stability.
