Open petition: Mandate a "One-Click to Cancel" button for all online subscriptions

Created by Matthew Woolcock
Closes on

We want the Government to use the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 to require companies to provide a prominent, one-click cancellation button for any subscription purchased online.

Currently, many companies make it easy to sign up but force customers through "dark patterns"—multiple pages of warnings, phone calls, or hidden menus—to cancel. While the 2024 Act requires "straightforward" cancellation, we believe it is too vague. We want the law to state that cancelling must be as easy as signing up: if it took one click to join, it must take no more than one click to leave.
