Open petition: Review of mandatory cat microchipping and informed consent requirements

Created by Michael James Mayhew
Closes on

Review the current law for compulsory microchipping of cats in England. A review could consider introducing microchipping as optional, or setting clearer requirements to ensure cat owners are informed of recognised but rare risks, including the potential for injection-site sarcomas.

This could be known as Princess' law.

Injection-site sarcomas are a documented but uncommon adverse outcome of any injections in cats & may be aggressive in nature.

For context, my cat, Princess, later developed an injection-site sarcoma & was ultimately euthanised to prevent further suffering. This submission does not allege negligence or misconduct by veterinary professionals, but seeks a proportionate review of existing policy to balance animal welfare, owner autonomy, & public policy objectives.
