Petition Increase HMRC Mileage Allowance to 70p per mile
The 45p per mile mileage allowance has been static for fifteen years. Since April 2011, prices in the UK have increased by around 49.2% according to the Bank of England. We want the allowance to increase to 70p a mile.
More details
Employers set their mileage allowances using the 45p HMRC rate, which we feel is now unrealistically low. We believe drivers aren't just affected by not having extra tax relief, but by being underpaid for their work associated travel costs, are effectively subsiding their employers out of their own pockets.
For someone claiming the maximum 10,000 miles of work or business travel the difference between 70p and 45p equates to a loss of £2,500 a year. Someone driving just 1,000 miles a year would be £250 out of pocket.
