Petition Require disclosure before publishing covert recordings of direct interactions
Introduce legislation so that when recordings of direct interactions filmed using hands-free or concealed body-worn devices are published and individuals are identifiable, the publisher must show the person was informed they were being recorded, unless publication is in the public interest.
More details
Reports show women being secretly filmed with smart glasses during conversations and posted online without their knowledge. This has led to abuse, unwanted exposure and loss of control over how they are represented. The law allows public filming but offers limited protection when covert recordings of direct interactions are published and people are identifiable. Requiring disclosure during covert filming allows people to choose how they’re shown online while protecting existing freedoms.
