Rejected petition Empower / entitle residential flat leaseholders to pursue commonhold ownership

To debate the merits of further strengthening of the Commonhold aspect of the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill, with the purpose of introducing further legislation to empower all leaseholders with the rights to pursue the Commonhold ownership for a fair and equitable settlement.

More details

The freehold system is out of date and grossly unfair to leaseholders. It is abused by unscrupulous freeholders and their property managers, who hide behind unclear legislation to exploit their position of power and control to excessively inflate service charges, for their gain, without accountability and transparency.

Parliament should now establish a straightforward and clear path to Commonhold ownership to enable leaseholder an equal say in the control and cost management of their building
