Rejected petition: Abolish the concept of marital duty to have sex
Rejected on
Abolish the concept of marital duty to have sex. Bring consequences for sexual coercion and abuse within marriage and enshrine it within UK law.
So many women in marriage have sex not because they want to, but out of an obligation and a duty within marriage. This leads to things like sexual coercion, rape and women don’t have a voice. Marriage should not mean sex is expected. Consent is always required. Protect women in marriage. A woman’s body does not belong to her husband and no should always mean no. France has done this, we should too.
Why was this petition rejected?
We can't publish petitions when the request is something that's already happening or something that has been announced since you started your petition.
We think your petition is covered by Government or Parliament action already. If you'd like something else, you could start a new petition clearly explaining what it is.
There is already no legal requirement or obligation to have sex during marriage.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
