Open petition: Ban compulsory purchase orders in redevelopment: protect homes & communities

Created by MR DAVID BEACH
Closes on

We want the Government to ban compulsory purchase orders in redevelopment schemes, protect residents’ rights to stay in their homes, and ensure regeneration is based on voluntary agreements and genuine community-led decision-making that strengthens, not dismantles, local communities.

We believe Compulsory Purchase Orders are being misused to displace families, pensioners, and long-standing residents for profit-driven redevelopment. This practice destroys communities, erodes human rights, and causes severe stress, especially for the vulnerable. Homes should not be treated as commodities. The Government must act to protect dignity, security, and ensure regeneration is voluntary, fair, and community-led, so redevelopment strengthens rather than dismantles neighbourhoods.
