Rejected petition: Create a National Standard for Road Maintenance and Pothole Repair

Rejected on

The Government should introduce a national standard for road maintenance and pothole repair, with maximum repair times for dangerous defects, ring‑fenced funding, and a transparent public reporting system so residents can track repairs.

Road conditions across the UK have become unsafe. Potholes damage vehicles, endanger cyclists and motorcyclists, delay buses and increase costs for councils and emergency services. Repair times vary widely, leaving communities with long‑term hazards. A national standard would set repair deadlines, define dangerous defects, ring‑fence funding, require public reporting and apply penalties for repeated failure
