Rejected petition: Guarantee in law that the NHS can never be abolished

Rejected on

The NHS is one of the greatest achievements of any government, anywhere in the world. Please enshrine in law that it will never be abolished or replaced unless by an absolute overall majority in a national referendum

The NHS protects the most vulnerable in our society from the costs we see in societies such as the United States where citizens have to choose between priortising healthcare or paying household bills/putting food on the table. Whilst it currently has flaws and is underfunded it should be an unalienable right for all UK citizens, morally and compassionately it should be a fundamental human right.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

It's unclear how this could be accomplished as one Parliament cannot bind its successor as both are sovereign bodies in their own right.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
