Rejected petition Protect BTEC qualifications and inclusive post 16 pathways.
We are asking the government to stop the removing and defunding L3 BTECS and keep them alongside T and V Levels. This keeps post-16 routes open for students with lower GCSE grades and teenagers with learning difficulties who may not be supported by exam sources and succeed in practical coursework.
More details
Removing the BTEC qualification risks limiting opportunities for many young people after Year 11. Students with lower GCSE grades and for example teenagers with disabilities or learning differences, may struggle to meet the academic and placement demand of the T Levels or V Levels. BTECs offer practical, coursework-based pathways that support a range of learners. Keeping BTECS promotes and gives inclusion, fairness and equal access to education and employment.
