Open petition: Give students the legal right to unrestricted toilet access in school
Created by Louise Houghton
Closes on
We are concerned about “zero-tolerance” toilet policies in schools which can force children to wait for escorts or deny toilet breaks and can cause physical harm (retention/bowel distress). We believe it violates the Equality Act, and we call for a legal right to toilet access at all times.
We believe many schools use "zero-tolerance" toilet rules that ignore physical health. We feel this system fails children by possibly causing urinary retention, UTIs, and bowel dysfunction. We believe it also discriminates against students with IBS, Crohn’s, or Autism through humiliating "escort" policies and compromises menstrual dignity. We request a mandate ensuring: 1. Toilet access is a basic legal right, not a privilege. 2. Students with medical needs have immediate, unescorted access. 3. Ending "collective punishment.
