Rejected petition Amend law to expand public inquiry powers over the Royal Household.

Amend law so that Government may call for public inquiries connected to Royal Household of significant public interest. Include authority to investigate conduct, knowledge, use of royal funds, use of royal property, & to require disclosure of relevant documents, correspondence and financial records.

More details

We have no clear legal mechanism for independent scrutiny where serious allegations involve the Royal Household. Allowing public inquiries would strengthen transparency and accountability in matters of significant public interest, including use of funds and property.

Why was this petition rejected?

We can't publish petitions when the request is something that's already happening or something that has been announced since you started your petition.

We think your petition is covered by Government or Parliament action already. If you'd like something else, you could start a new petition clearly explaining what it is.

There seem to be no current exemption for the Royal Household from the provisions of the Inquiries Act 2005, so what you are calling for we believe can already happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
