Rejected petition The Prime Minister be required to answer questions at PMQ’s without obfuscation.

Deviating to the record of the opposition or the government’s own successes in order to avoid answering the question directly cannot be allowed and the Speaker must ensure compliance.

More details

PMQ’s has, as far as questions from the leader of the opposition is concerned, become unhelpful to understanding the truth underlying the question and has thereby been reduced to an irrelevance. Answering questions in a meaningful way is important for the public’s understanding of policy, obfuscation leads to public indifference and reduced engagement in politics. Among other things this is dangerous to the longevity of democratic societies that need the public to understand its merits.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament as a whole aren't responsible for the issue you raise. Order in the Commons is the responsibility of the Speaker, and Members are responsible for their answers to questions.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
