Rejected petition Change the national anthem of the UK.

I consider that the words are not appropriate as a national anthem in this century. A national anthem should be about the nation and its people not about an historic ruler. Additionally the music is a dirge and very uninspiring.

I am assuming that any such change has to be considered by parliament before any formal process is undertaken.

This isn’t something that the UK Government or Parliament would be able to do. The use of the present National Anthem is a matter of tradition rather than having any legal or constitutional status.
