Rejected petition Ring-fence all Road Tax Duty revenue for road repairs and pothole prevention

We want the Government to legally ring-fence all Vehicle Excise Duty revenue so it is used exclusively for road maintenance, pothole repairs and resurfacing. This would ensure drivers’ taxes directly improve road safety and reduce vehicle damage across the UK.

UK drivers pay billions in Vehicle Excise Duty each year, yet roads remain full of potholes causing accidents and expensive repairs. Reports from the RAC show record levels of pothole breakdowns, and councils have paid out millions in compensation for vehicle damage. In some cases, drivers have suffered serious crashes due to poor road surfaces. Ring-fencing this revenue would improve safety, reduce costs and ensure accountability.
