Rejected petition Review the introduction of kick-ins and dribble ons in grass roots football.

We call on the Government to review the recent introduction of kick-ins in grassroots youth football, replacing traditional throw-ins, due to concerns around player safety, inconsistent enforcement, and negative impacts on football development.

More details

From the 25/26 season, grassroots youth leagues replaced throw-ins with kick-ins and dribble-ons to increase ball time. kick-ins allow far more power, with balls often driven into crowded areas, raising the risk of injury. The change encourages long-ball football over skills development, while inconsistent control has caused confusion and unfair advantages. Coaches and parents are concerned, and a national review is needed to assess whether this rule is suitable for children’s football.
