Open petition: Ban landlords from requiring UK Guarantors in all Private Rentals
Created by Alize Farhin Hasnain
Closes on
We want the Government to ban landlords from requiring UK guarantors for private rentals, including studios and flats, to recognise third-party guarantor services, to ensure landlords follow the Renters’ Rights Act, and to stop landlords demanding more than one or two months’ rent upfront.
Many tenants struggle to rent because they cannot provide a UK guarantor, even when offering third-party guarantor services. This blocks people on benefits, students, young professionals, migrants, and internationals from accessing safe housing. We believe removing mandatory guarantors and ensuring fair rent policies will give everyone equal opportunity to live comfortably and securely in the UK.
