Rejected petition Abolish unfair school policies that force students to conform to a certain look

Abolish school uniform policies that forces students to look a certain way. This includes freedom of appearance in hair and makeup unless it is truly a harmful violation. I believe young people should be aloud a right to self expression in the way they present themselves.

More details

This cause has scientifically been proven to improve confidences and concentration in a school environment. Students enthusiasm will grow if they feel comfortable in themselves. Right now staff are taking students out of lessons they struggle in to shame them on their appearance which should not have to happen. I would like the policy to be updated to a newer, improved, welcoming version of the original rules as young people should keep their identity suppressed.

Currently, it is for the governing board of a school to decide rules about appearance, whether there should be a school uniform policy and, if so, what that should be. You can read the Government's guidance to schools here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/school-uniform
