Rejected petition: Call a referendum on having a monarchy

Rejected on

Call a referendum with the question: "Should the UK have a monarchy? YES / NO"

The British Monarchy costs the taxpayer £500M a year. We could use this money more effectively.

Do nothing in event of YES.

Enact legal change to remove any special legal protections, shared asset ownership and funding from all members of the royal family and their associated organisations in the event of NO.

YES / NO decided on 50% of votes cast with no buffer or exceedance, (as per 2016)

Having a referendum would be democratic, and this question has never been asked of the UK population.
