Rejected petition Strengthen Clare’s Law to better protect victims of domestic abuse

Review and strengthen Clare’s Law so people are better protected from domestic abusers. Improve awareness of the scheme and consider ways to ensure individuals are informed if a partner has a known history of domestic abuse, violence stalking or coercive control.

More details

Domestic abuse affects millions of people every year. In England and Wales around 3.8 million people experienced domestic abuse in the last year alone. Many victims only discover a partner’s history of abuse after serious harm has already occurred. The Government should review whether stronger safeguards are needed, including whether police should be able to proactively warn potential partners about repeat domestic abuse offenders.
