Open petition: Launch a Public Consultation on the Reintroduction of the Eurasian Lynx
Created by Damian Smith
Closes on
I would like to suggest the government consider backing the reintroduction of the Eurasian Lynx as an option to manage deer populations.
We believe a reintroduction programme for a native predator such as the Lynx, backed by the government, would be one of the most sustainable ways to balance the ecosystem.
Deer populations in the UK have been out of control for some time now and one of the major reasons for this is the lack of a natural predator such as the Lynx or the Wolf which were both hunted out of extinction in the UK hundreds of years ago. The Eurasian Lynx naturally hunts Roe deer which could help balance the ecosystem and save our woodlands from further destruction by bringing about stable deer population/behaviour. We believe the effect of Lynx on farm animals would be very small in well fenced/managed farms
