Petition Increase Disabled Facilities Grant cap frozen since 2008 as costs rise

We want the Government to review and increase the Disabled Facilities Grant cap in England, which has remained at £30,000 since 2008. The cap should reflect current building costs and be regularly updated in line with inflation so essential home adaptations remain affordable for disabled people.

More details

Building costs have risen significantly since 2008. £30,000 then would be worth around £49,554 today. Many families caring for disabled children now face large shortfalls between the DFG and the actual cost of essential home adaptations recommended by Occupational Therapists. Families are often forced to fundraise or seek charity support simply to make their homes safe and accessible for their children. The grant should be reviewed and updated in line with construction-specific inflation.
